Woman in Kasaragod district dies of H1N1; Kerala reports 31 cases this year


A 25-year-old woman in Kasaragod district died of H1N1 taking this year’s toll in Kerala to five until today. This year, Kerala has reported 31 confirmed cases of H1N1, according to disease surveillance cell of the health department. Of the 31 cases, 18 were reported within last three weeks after the monsoon hit the state. Of the five deaths, two were reported in June, said the cell. Kasargode DMO P Gopinathan said the victim was a housewife hailing from Paivaligae, a village bordering Mangalore. She was not perceptibly exposed to any risk factors associated with H1N1. The woman named Nirupama used to travel frequently to Mangalore, where a few cases had been reported. She was admitted to a hospital in Mangalore with fever and cough last week, said the DMO.
