Software Review: QuickBooks Online


Since it launched more than a decade ago, QuickBooks Online has been the small business accounting service to beat. Numerous competitors have popped up over the years, but building this type of online financial solution is complicated and expensive, and no one has done it as well as QuickBooks Online (from $39.95 per month). That said, QuickBooks Online hasn t changed much since I last reviewed it 18 months ago, though an iPad-optimized version and some internal tweaking have enhanced its usability. And QuickBooks Online is not without deficits, one of which may be major for global businesses: It doesn t support multiple currencies for U.S. users. Upstart competitor Xero has come within shooting distance in some respects. Intuit s online support system is not as comprehensive, accessible, or cleanly-organized as Xero s, for example. Kashoo (the accounting side of Paychex Accounting Online) is also beginning to offer some real competition, with its solid double-entry accounting site. W
